PROJECT OVERVIEW
We updated this 4,300 square foot, 5 bedroom home for a busy family of six. Keeping in mind the Spanish architecture of the home, we infused the homeowner’s clean, up-to-date style for a Modern Mediterranean result.
STYLE MARKERS
PROJECT CHALLENGES
The main challenge was the homes dated appearance as compared to this family’s more modern and clean style. It was important to the homeowners to keep the Spanish influence of the home and bring in a modern twist. The hardwood floor was like new, but was stained a cherry red and the stairs were very ornate. The downstairs built-ins were also dated. Some of the family’s furniture was not to scale for the new-to-them home.
PROJECT RESULTS
We completely remodeled several elements of the home and it began with the floors. We salvaged the original, beautiful hardwood floors by sanding and refinishing – letting the natural walnut species be the star. We reworked the staircase to be minimal, reflecting the homeowners’ style. We resigned the built-in and fireplace to highlight the Spanish aesthetics of the home while bringing a modern twist. The use of marble for the hearth, black cabinetry with woven cabinetry doors and a simple plastered fireplace surround and mantel gives this family room a completely new look and feel!
